Tanushree Dutta, who is said to have started the #MeToo movement in India by accusing Nana Patekar of sexual harassment, the actress is all set to return to return to the US. Talking about leaving India and the impending case she said that her future lies in the US and the legal procedures don't require her physical presence.
"I have been living with it for a decade without redressal. The legal process is not dependent on me being around. If I have to be around to push the case, what is the point of the legal system and law enforcers?", she told Mid Day.
The actress also talked about the impact and future of the movement and exclaimed that #MeToo cannot be a front page story every day. "I do not look at it as now hot, now cold. Such things are a revolution. What matters is its impact in the future. It has created an atmosphere where sexual predators are aware that they cannot get away with misbehaviour. It came as a surprise when women began calling out the sexual predators. I am aware that #MeToo cannot be front page news every day,” she added.
In August, Tanushree Dutta alleged that on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss, actor Nana Patekar sexually assaulted her. In 2008, she filed a complaint against him to CINTAA. In her complaint, she also made allegations against the film’s choreographer Ganesh Acharya, director Rakesh Sarang and producer Samee Siddique, of ganging up against her by witnessing everything mutely and not interfering. she had also filed FIR against the accused.
She was also slapped with two legal notices by Nana Patekar and Vivek Agnihotri after she accused them of misbehaving with her in two separate incidents.
