On January 22, 2024, the world will witness the grand consecration of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir. A-list celebrities from across the country have been invited for this historic occasion, including veteran actor Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic show Ramayan. In a recent interview, Arun Govil shared his thoughts on the beloved show, his character, and why people continue to associate him with Lord Ram even decades after the show concluded.
In a conversation with DD News, Arun Govil delved into the significance of his character as Lord Ram in Ramayan. He disclosed that Ramayana was a daily reading in his household during his childhood. His mother encouraged him to read the text himself, although he struggled to comprehend it as it was written in Awadh. He reminisced about the daily pujas held in the morning and evening, where the entire family would gather to worship together. According to Govil, family members actively participated in these rituals.
Reflecting on his role as Lord Ram, Arun Govil shared that he was deeply influenced by the qualities of the character. When Ramanand Sagar approached him for Ramayan, Govil expressed his desire to play the role of Lord Ram exclusively. He believes that his childhood exposure to Ramayana compelled him to take on the character. Govil emphasised that portraying Lord Ram gave him courage, motivation, and strength, and made him worthy of living the character.
Furthermore, Arun Govil disclosed that he is currently involved in a film titled 695, centred around the Ram Temple. The film is set to release on January 19, 2024, just ahead of the much-anticipated consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. Govil’s ongoing connection with projects related to Lord Ram reflects his continued dedication to the legacy of Ramayan and the significance of the upcoming events in Ayodhya.
Arun Govil’s insights provide a glimpse into the enduring impact of Ramayan and the profound connection he shares with the character of Lord Ram.
