Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s recently released Lal Salaam has opened to mixed reviews with a section of people showering the film with applause for its direction and others labelling it preachy and dull. Rajinikanth’s daughter, Aishwarya who was earlier married to Dhanush, recently spoke about her previous directorial titled 3. While the film failed to grab attention, its song Why This Kolavari Di turned out to be a massive hit. Aishwarya, in an interview, has now opened up about how the song’s success affected her film’s overall success.
In a recent interview with Rednool, Aishwarya Rajinikanth expressed how the success of Why This Kolavari Di came as a shock for her. She said, “We weren’t prepared and it was a huge shock. ‘Kolaveri Di’ just happened in our lives. It [success] became a huge pressure on the film. More than a surprise, it was a shock for me.”
Speaking about how the song overshadowed the film, she added, “I was trying to tell a different story, but the song swallowed and overshadowed the film. It was very difficult for me [to accept]. It was a serious film. Not many spoke about the film when it was released. However, I received a lot of phone calls during its re-release and every time during its telecast.”
Aishwarya further remarked that her film 3 didn’t get the desired reception because of Kolaveri Di adding that if it had helped the careers of individuals related to the film, then she would have been happy.
It is pertinent to note that in the year 2011, Anirudh Ravichander’s ‘Why This Kolavari Di’ leaked online. The song immediately became viral globally, raking in millions of views with people loving the quirky song. The intriguing Tanglish (a mix of Tamil and English) lyrics of the song caught people’s attention and when combined with the vocals of Dhanush, the soulful rendition became captivating making it the chartbuster of the year.
Meanwhile, ‘3’ is a romantic drama, headlined by Dhanush and Shruti Haasan. The film revolves around the protagonist’s journey and his relationships while dealing with bipolar disorder.
