As the film awards season moves towards the 96th Academy Awards in March, attention now shifts to the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). Hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the BAFTAs honour the best in British and international cinema, with this year marking the 77th edition of the awards.
The 2024 BAFTAs are scheduled to take place at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 18, 2024, starting at 7 pm GMT. In Indian Standard Time, the ceremony will begin at 12:30 am on February 19. In India, viewers can tune in to Lionsgate Play to catch the red carpet program and the award ceremony.
This year, historical drama Oppenheimer received the most nominations (13) for the BAFTA. Poor Things and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon also did well, each securing nine nominations. These three movies will compete for the top prize of best film, along with courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall and The Holdovers, a comedy set in a boys’ boarding school. Barbie, starring Margot Robbie as the Mattel doll, received nods in five categories. While it’s not confirmed who will present awards for each category, former winners Emma Mackay and Jack O’Connell will hand out the Rising Star Award. This year, contenders include Phoebe Dynevor, Ayo Edebiri, Jacob Elordi, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Sophie Wilde.
After her big appearance at the Oscars last year, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone is all set to present at BAFTA as well. She’ll hand out the golden mask as reported by Variety. Joining her onstage will be celebrities like David Beckham, Cate Blanchett, and Dua Lipa. Other stars at the ceremony include Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh, Hugh Grant, Lily Collins from Emily in Paris, and The Crown stars Emma Corrin and Gillian Anderson, along with Himesh Patel and Idris Elba.
