At the end of August, the shocking news broke that member Taeil would no longer be part of the popular boy band NCT due to his alleged involvement in an undisclosed sex crime. As more information about the case surfaced, fans and the group’s members began responding. NCT members, including Haechan, reportedly unfollowed band member Taeil on social media. Some, like Haechan, even reached out to fans with personal messages. While Mark and Haechan reportedly flew out for NCT DREAM’s Latin American tour on August 30, the remaining members of NCT 127 (NCT’s sub-unit) do not have any group schedules until September 3.

The group made their way to Thailand for a special fan signing event to promote the release of their new song, Walk. Despite everything, the group went ahead with the scheduled event and reportedly interacted with their Thai fans. However, unlike their usual lively appearances, their arrival this time felt more subdued. They refrained from posing for reporters as they arrived, informs Koreaboo. Fans took photos of the group, which gave a closer look at the members. Many fans were particularly heartbroken when they noticed member Doyoung’s eyes looking red and teary in one set of pictures.

A report from Koreaboo also informs that after the photos, another clip of the idol also surfaced. It showed Doyoung to be on the verge of tears, blinking rapidly as if trying to hold them back.

As for the controversy surrounding Taeil, it exploded on August 28 when SM Entertainment, his agency, officially announced his removal from NCT. The company reportedly cited his involvement in a serious sexual crime and stressed the gravity of the situation. SM Entertainment also expressed its deep regret and pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Taeil’s once-busy social media accounts went quiet in the days following the scandal. His Instagram, which had been quite active, became private. Since the news broke, Taeil has reportedly lost over 1.1 million followers.
