Dwayne Johnson To Return As Maui’s In Moana 2?

Disney is back with the sequel to the Oscar-winning animated film Moana. On February 8, the company treated fans to a sweet surprise when they dropped Moana 2’s first look poster and teaser. While actress Auli’i Cravalho lent her voice to the titular character, WWE veteran and actor Dwayne Johnson was the demigod Maui. However, the masses were left hanging in the air as the latest announcement did not mention whether the two celebrities would be reprising their role in the second part. While Cravalho’s return remains uncertain, recent reports coupled with Johnson’s latest Instagram activity indicate that ‘The Rock’ might play his part in Moana 2.

Dwayne Johnson “is in talks” with the makers of Moana 2 and Disney CEO Bob Iger to come back as the voice of Maui, reported Deadline. Although neither party confirmed the news, sources claim that there is a strong possibility that Johnson might reprise his iconic character. The same, however, reportedly doesn’t apply to Auli’i Cravalho.

Adding to the intrigue, Dwayne Johnson dropped Moana 2’s teaser on Instagram. In the caption, he mentioned the release date of the film and a bunch of random sea-themed emojis.

A day ago, Auli’i Cravalho also re-shared the teaser on Instagram, but her caption was not that enthusiastic. She simply added the hashtag of the film’s title along with two wave emojis.

While these social media interactions do not clearly underline anything concrete, Johnson’s cryptic post has raised speculations among fans about his association with Moana 2, especially after the ongoing reports.

Moana 2 is helmed by Dave Derrick Jr while the song composition of the musical adventure film is overseen by Grammy winners Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow among others. The upcoming film will centre around Moana embarking on another “expansive new voyage with Maui” when her “wayfinding ancestors” send her a sudden message. This time, Moana and Maui will be accompanied by a crew of seafarers as well. Moana 2 is slated to hit the big screens on November 27.
