Is winter already coming? While fans have been eagerly waiting for George R.R. Martin’s next novel in The Song of Ice and Fire book series for over a decade now, the author has shared a crucial update on The Winds of Winter. Amid rumours suggesting that Martin has finished writing the book and it can come out anytime soon, he has put a rest to all, asserting that there will be a big announcement. In a blog post, Martin, while confirming that his latest novel is yet to be finished, wrote, “When WINDS OF WINTER is done, the word will not trickle out, there WILL be a big announcement… where and when I cannot say.” He refrained from elaborating on how close the book is to being completed or its anticipated release time.
With this, it seems like all the hopes among fans have been shattered once again, making them wait for an indefinite period. In his post, Martin also shared how his meeting with his editor made the internet go “nuts” and brought up a lot of theories regarding the novel. “Uhhhh, sorry guys, but no. That’s not how it works. It does not signify that some momentous announcement is at hand. It doesn’t signify anything, actually. Except for a desire to touch base, catch up, renew old contacts or make some new ones and enjoy a nice meal,” he added.
Earlier in 2022, the author shared that the book was “three-quarters of the way done,” further adding that it would be a challenging task and that the novel is going to be a larger one than any of the previous volumes in the series.

Following the conclusion of Game of Thrones, the world of Westeros expanded with the introduction of the House of the Dragon and other spinoffs. However, fans had been yearning for The Winds of Winter, considering the original series still remains incomplete.
The novel is expected to pick up from A Dance With Dragons and A Feast for Crows, with the characters of Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister facing uncertain fates. Also, mysteries surrounding Sansa’s future, Lady Stoneheart and Prince Aegon are expected to be unveiled in the book.
