The movie was directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and featured Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani in the lead roles, both making their debuts. The film was released on February 19, 1986, and was a huge success. The film also starred popular actors like Rajesh, Tara, Shubha, Jayanthi, Thoogudeepa Srinivas, and Guru Dutt in pivotal roles. The movie did extremely well at the box office. According to reports, Anand ran for 38 weeks in theatres. According to reports, Shiva Rajkumar was just 23 years old when he made the first film.
Shiva Rajkumar was initially offered to act in a Malayalam film while he was still studying in college. At that time, his mother, Parvathamma Rajkumar, asked him to go into acting because she first wanted him to complete his degree. Later, after completing his studies, Shiva Rajkumar trained himself in acting, stunts, and dance. Then, he finally entered as a lead actor in the film, Anand.
