Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet to build a case of abetment to suicide against actor Sooraj Pancholi in the Jiah Khan death case. The next hearing in the matter will take place on January 18, 2016.
A CBI special court in Mumbai took cognizance of the chargesheet. Sooraj was present in the court when the chargesheet was filed.
A three-member medical board concluded that the Jiah Khan's death was a case of suicide. The board negated findings of private doctors which were submitted to the Bombay High Court by Jiah's mother Rabyia Khan.
The CBI relied on statement of a psychiatrist to build the case against Sooraj. The psychiatrist deposed saying Jiah was undergoing counselling after her abortion. Jiah had allegedly told the psychiatrist that Sooraj impregnated her and made her abort more than once.
Unsatisfied with the CBI report, Jiah's mother Rabia Khan said, "There's more to it and more truth will definitely come out. The police had sabotaged everything. When we went to the CBI they said madam the case has come to us after a year and all the evidence has been diluted or sabotaged. Definitely they were sure that it was murder and that is what they were told by the High Court to find out."
Rabia Khan's lawyer Swapneel Ambre said, "We will decide our further steps only after we see the report. We are fighting for the truth."
Defending his son, actor Aditya Pancholi said, "We haven't received the copy of the chargesheet as yet. These are rumours that Sooraj has been arrested. His bail hasn't been cancelled."
Jiah, the 25-year-old British-American actress, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Juhu on June 3, 2013. Her relationship with newbie actor Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zareena Wahab, was said to be under strain and it was suspected that it drove her to end her life.
