Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan recently made his acting debut with the Netflix movie, Maharaj. However, did you know that the starkid had also auditioned for the lead role in his father’s 2022 film, Laal Singh Chaddha? In a recent interview, Junaid revealed that even though he had auditioned for Laal Singh Chaddha, it did not work out due to several reasons.
“I had actually auditioned for Laal Singh Chaddha which Papa has talked about publicly, but it didn’t work out. Papa (Aamir Khan) was very keen that I do the film,” Junaid told E-Times.
When asked what role he auditioned for, the Maharaj director Siddharth P Malhotra revealed that it was for the role of protagonist, Laal Singh Chaddha. “It was this audition that Adi ( Aditya Chopra) and I saw, and what an audition that was… it was outstanding and if that clip can be released at some point in time, it would be great,” the director added.
Released on August 11, 2022, Laal Singh Chaddha starred Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in key roles. It was directed by Advait Chandan and was the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 movie Forrest Gump. Even though it was one of the most-awaited films of the year, it failed terribly at the box office and earned hardly Rs 60 crore in India.
Later in an interview, Kareena Kapoor also recalled meeting Aamir Khan for the first time after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha when she shared that the actor looked very apologetic.
“Aamir and I were at the inauguration of NMACC (Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre). That’s when we first met after (Laal Singh Chaddha). Well, I saw his face, and I could see how he was looking at me, apologetic and sad, at the same time. Together, we’ve delivered big films – 3 Idiots (2009) and Talaash (2012). But you know what? It doesn’t matter. I wrote a long letter (on WhatsApp) to both Aamir and the director (Advait Chandan), telling them that our relationships and talent don’t depend on the outcome of a film,” she told Mid-Day in October 2023.
