Tere Naam is celebrated as one of Salman Khan’s finest performances. Directed by the late Satish Kaushik, the film marked Bhumika Chawla’s Bollywood debut. Its soundtrack, featuring hits like “Tere Naam,” “O Jaana,” and “Kyun Kisi Ko,” quickly gained popularity. Now, 21 years later, Mahima Chaudhry, who made a special appearance in “O Jaana,” shared an intriguing story about her involvement in the Hindi remake of the Tamil film “Sethu.”
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Mahima recounted that the incident occurred around the time she survived a serious accident while filming “Dil Kya Kare” (1999), which left her with severe facial injuries from over 67 glass shards.
She recalled, “I was not originally supposed to be in this film. After my accident, I wanted to re-enter the industry, so I started taking on songs and guest appearances to remind audiences I was still around. Interestingly, every film I did ended up being a major hit, which led to more offers for similar roles. It became a challenge for me — I thought, ‘If this keeps happening, how will I return to being a leading lady?’”
Mahima Chaudhry recalled that during that time, Satish Kaushik and the team were filming a song in Hyderabad and needed a female lead opposite Salman Khan for a song. She said, “Around that time, Satish Kaushik and the team were filming a song sequence in Hyderabad and needed a female lead to dance opposite Salman. They were unsure who to cast, and then Satish called me. I couldn’t say no. When I asked about my costume, he told me to wear my own clothes. So, everything you see in the song — the outfit, the accessories — was mine.”
On the work front, Mahima Chaudhry will be seen in Kangana Ranaut’s directorial, Emergency and Marathi film Anumati’s official Hindi remake, Signature, that will drop on OTT platfrom ZEE5.
