Actor Mithun Chakraborty will be awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award today at the 70th National Film Awards which is all set to be held in Delhi. The actor has been honoured with the award for his contribution to Indian cinema. In a recent interview, he spoke about his approach to how he continues to stay relevant in the industry even after decades.
In a conversation with India Today Digital, Mithun Chakraborty spoke about how he continues to stay relevant in the film industry. He mentioned the need to change with the moving times and also evolve according to one’s age. The actor said, “Being relevant means changing with the times because if you don’t, you will be left behind. If I feel now I can do Disco Dancer, it would be a foolish move. According to my age and look, I choose my films, and I can do justice that way.”
The actor is popular for his approach to films. In earlier interviews, he confessed to doing three types of films – one for money, one for his fans, and another for himself. In the same conversation, he mentioned how he has changed his approach now. He spoke about how he chooses films. He continued, “In my early years, money was a constant need for me; I had a huge family to look after, so it was definitely a huge criterion. But now, times have changed. I don’t think about such things anymore. I focus on doing a film that satisfies my creative side more than anything else.”
Chakraborty spoke about receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and how important the recognition is in today’s time. This will mark the fourth time the Disco Dancer actor will receive a National Award for his work in the industry.
