A new trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s 'The Hateful Eight' has dropped and looks like the 8th directorial venture (you are reminded of this all through the publicity material) of this legendary director is all set to live up to its hype. Featuring the quirky voice-over narration by the incomparable (and Tarantino staple) Samuel L Jackson, the trailer introduces us to the film’s eclectic cast.
The new trailer for 'The Hateful Eight' only heightens our anticipation for this ‘drawing room mystery’ western, which places eight violent people in one wild west cabin and watches them all turn on one another as cabin fever takes over. This movie may take place almost entirely in one location, but as this preview shows us, there will be no shortage of blood, wisecracks and gunplay.
The film has had a tumultuous production history. The entire project was put on hold after the script was leaked in early 2014. Tarantino even considered publishing the script in novel form. Luckily for us, he decided to go ahead with the production and the movie is slated for a limited release on Christmas day and a wider release on 8 January 2016. Here is a look at the eight:
Samuel L Jackson as The Bounty Hunter: Major Marquis Warren is a former black Union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter. It is worthwhile to note here that the story unfolds a few years after the American Civil War.
Kurt Russel as The Hangman: Also known as John Ruth, he acquired his monicker because of his habit of hanging fugitives he captures. This is Russel’s 2nd collaboration with Tarantino after 2007’s 'Death Proof'.
Jennifer Jason Leigh as The Prisoner: Daisy Domergue, as she is also known is a fugitive wanted dead or alive for murder. She has been captured by The Hangman who is transporting her to Red Rock to face justice.
Walton Goggins as The Sheriff: What happens when a renegade claims to be the law? Chris Mannix, as the sheriff is otherwise called promises intrigue and a fast draw on the six-shooter.
Demian Bichir as The Mexican: As a blizzard rages outside, the hateful seven gather in the secluded Minnie’s Haberdashery where they encounter the caretaker, just known as Bob, the eighth of the hatefuls.
Tim Roth as The Little Man: Oswaldo Mobray is, as his nickname suggests rather diminutive in size. He is also the hangman of the town of Little Rock.
Bruce Dern as The Confederate: General Sanford "Sandy" Smithers led the Confederate Southern army against the Union in the American Civil War. This puts him in direct conflict with the Bounty Hunter who is both a man of colour and a former Union soldier.
Michael Madsen as The Cow-puncher: The most mysterious of the lot, the only detail that is available is his real name: Joe Gage. Oh, and there better be a cracking story behind that unusual nickname.
And I wrap up this hateful piece with this photograph of the master in action with the cast:
