Rajinikanth To Compensate For Vettaiyan’s Box Office Performance? Here’s What We Know
Reportedly, the actor has also been requested to reduce his pay for the next collaboration.

Rajinikanth’s latest release Vettaiyan has failed to match its box office expectations. Despite an intriguing star cast bringing together Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, with Fahadh Faasil also joining them, the film could only collect Rs 207 crore worldwide at the end of its first week. Now, reports have emerged that the production house behind the film, Lyca Productions, has approached the superstar to compensate for the loss. However, an official confirmation on the same is yet to be made.

Lyca Production, in a bid to reimburse the financial setback of Vettaiyan, has asked Rajinikanth to do another film for them, as a report by M9 news claims. The actor has also been requested to reduce his pay for the next collaboration. The step has allegedly been taken as the production house’s last collaborations with Rajinikanth, such as 2.0, Lal Salaam and Darbar also did not live up to the expectations. With Vettaiyan, the makers expected compensation but the latest release, too, could not perform well. Details around upcoming collaboration have been kept under wraps.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan saw Rajinikanth essaying the role of a cop again. Earlier, during a press conference, the filmmaker had reflected on his intentions to make a prequel to the film. Emphasising that he wishes to explore the character of Athiyan, Rajinikanth’s character in the film, through a prequel. Gnanavel shared that he wants to show his journey of becoming an encounter specialist.

“I’m more interested in exploring a prequel. Vettaiyan: The Hunter could delve into Athiyan’s journey, revealing how he became an encounter specialist, Fahadh Faasil’s transformation into a thief and police informant, and other aspects of the story’s backstory,” said TJ Gnanavel.

Amitabh Bachchan’s reunion with Rajinikanth years after their last release Hum in 1991 had fans buzzing with excitement, however, did not translate into the box-office collections of Vettaiyan. Apart from the duo and Fahadh Faasil, the film also starred Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh and Dushara Vijayan in key roles.

Rajinikanth also saw a health setback recently. The superstar underwent a minor surgical procedure in Chennai earlier this month.
