Raveena Tandon is currently making headlines for her role as Indrani Kothari in the web series Karmma Calling. Raveena plays an actress turned socialite in the show, who runs the elite social circle in Alibaug. Raveena’s character was a popular actress in the 1990s, just like Raveena herself. The actress recently spoke about her filmography and revealed that she had to reject four films with Shah Rukh Khan. Now she revealed the real reason why she rejected to do the Chaiyya Chaiyya song with him.
Speaking to BBC Asian Network, she said, “I had just done Sheher Ki Ladki, right? And it had become a very big hit. Organically, Chaiyya Chaiyya came to me and I remember SRK saying ‘Mani sir wants to talk to you because he wants you to do the song for us’.”
She added, “And I was in a very awkward situation because although I was dying to work with Mani Ratnam Sir but then just being offered an item song again, it would have been stereotyping myself and in those days people used to get typecast, you used to get stereotyped.”
“I knew the song was rock solid. There were no two ways, you just had to hear the song and completely fall in love with it. It’s actually a difficult spot. I believe in the parallel life kind of thing,” she continued.
Interestingly, Raveena had also recently revealed that she had rejected Karmma Calling 10 years ago. “This show was literally planned ten years ago when Ruchi ji came to my office and we had talked about this show, it was for Star and she needed a lot of dates. “At that time, my son, Ranbir was barely three-four months old so I had said no to her. So, it was karma that we all are here with the show ten years later,” she said.
Karmma Calling is adapted and directed by Ruchi Narain of Guilty fame, for Disney+ Hotstar.
