It has been over five years since we saw Tony Stark sacrifice himself in Avengers: Endgame. Robert Downey Jr truly lived the character, which helped the then-‘newly sober’ star to rebuild his reputation and jump back into action. While Robert Downey Jr. is ready to return to the MCU with Avengers: Doomsday, an old clip from his audition for Iron Man has resurfaced capturing everyone’s attention.
Showing him effortlessly delivering lines, the actor’s precision, and sharp demeanor have fans’ attention. In the video, the actor is seen with a journalist as he stands as Tony Stark. It shows his transition from that playboy charm to a serious posture.

It also has an emotional conversation between him and another actor, who stands in for Terrence Howard’s James Rhodes. The actor is also seen having a gala time with his co-actors, laughing as he delivers the dialogue. The video instantly garnered a lot of reactions from fans. One wrote, “Damn Good! This should be included in the Bonus Features in a special edition Bluray, DVD, or Digital re-release of Iron Man. Can’t imagine anyone else other than RDJ as Tony Stark. Simply MAGNIFICENT!”

“I would have hired him as the director in a heartbeat. Outstanding delivering in that audition, mannerism, and voice texture to feel. He was truly meant to play Iron Man,” another comment read.

While Downey is still dubbed the best choice for the iconic Marvel superhero, he was not the first choice. At an event, Kevin Feige said, “When we were casting the role of Iron Man, we looked at many different actors. We had to find the perfect mix of heart, strength, and charisma. We pinpointed the right guy and extended an offer to our top choice – an actor who checked all of those boxes and who we were confident would be a huge hit. And his name, of course, was Clive Owen. He passed. He was not interested.”
Robert Downey Jr. will be seen as the antagonist, Victor von Doom, aka Dr. Doom, in the next Avengers film.
