When it comes to dancing at weddings, Shah Rukh Khan has always a refreshing take. He never did it for the glitz and glam, but because it makes people happy — and he’s all about spreading joy! According to SRK, choreographer Saroj Khan once told him to never turn down work because you never know when it might stop coming. So, he has always been game for these performances, treating them with the same dignity as his movie roles.

But here’s the catch—it’s not your typical wedding jig! Shah Rukh’s appearances are full-fledged, well-organized performances with proper stages and audience seating. So no, he’s not busting moves at the buffet table! And while his fees for such events are famously high, he’s quick to remind everyone that the money helps fund his films. He’d rather self-fund than take out loans.

On Saturday, at IIFA Awards that he co-hosted with Karan Johar and Vicky Kaushal, he was asked about his famous wedding gigs. Karan Johar asked him, “Aap pehle kaafi wedding shows karte the. Lekin aapne jana kyun bandh kar diya (You used to do a lot of wedding shows earlier. But why did you stop going)” To this, SRK said, “Kya hai na, pehle main logo ke damaad ke umar ka tha. Ab main sasur ke umar ka ho gaya hoon. Begani shaadi mein abdullah deewana sa lagta hoon (You see, earlier I was the age of the groom. Now, I’m the age of the father-in-law. I feel out of place like an odd man at someone else’s wedding).”

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Vicky Kaushal sprinkled some serious magic on the IIFA 2024 stage with their performance of Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam! The two heartthrobs treated the audience to a blast from the past. SRK rocked the OG version from Duplicate, while Vicky brought his own flair with the remake from Bad Newz, which just dropped earlier this year.
