Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik has finally reacted to the similarities between his film’s poster and that of Stranger Things 2. When the poster of Shraddha Kapoor starrer was released earlier this year, several users pointed out its striking similarities with the poster of the hit series Stranger Things 2. The colour scheme of both the posters looked very similar with the movie title spelled out in red. However, director Kaushik has now stated that he ‘did not realise’ the similarities when they finalised the Stree 2 poster.
“About the poster resemblance to ‘Stranger Things’, we did not realise it honestly. The designer made it, we liked it and we later realised that it was quite similar. I know the audience is more intelligent than the filmmaker. They will catch plagiarism. So, I know what the audience feels but the intention was not to copy. It was co-incidental. Had I known, we would have avoided it,” the director told India Today.
Previously, Abhishek Banerjee also reacted to the poster similarities and explained that he is an actor and therefore, he has no say in the poster designing or marketing of the film.
“Pata nahi, I have no idea. Yeh marketing aur poster woh log kis tarah se sochte hain humein kya pata. Hum toh actor hain. Hamara toh kaam hai poster pe aana, banana thodi hai (Who knows what happened. I have no idea how the marketing team involved with poster design came up with these ideas. My job is to appear on those posters, not to make them),” he told Bollywood Hungama.
Starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi, Stree 2 hit theatres on August 15 and impressed audiences. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 sees Rajkummar and Shraddha reprise their roles from the original. The sequel continues the eerie tale in the town of Chanderi, now haunted by a new terror, Sarkata. The townspeople once again turn to Stree for salvation. The film also features several surprise cameos, including Varun Dhawan as Bhediya, who shares a special song with Shraddha Kapoor.
Stree 2 clashed at the box office with Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa. Despite this, Stree 2 managed to gather audience’s attention. Produced by Maddock Films, the film has turned into an all-time blockbuster. Stree 2 has earned over Rs 500 crore at the Indian box office as of now.
