Every Friday is the box office day in India, when many films are put to the test. Some films pass it with flying colours and some attain unmatched fame. In the era of OTT and multiplex cinemas, the desire to go to the cinema has gone down a bit. There was a time when films were released only as talkies and fans would rush to the theatres to watch their favourite actor or actress’ films. One such film was released in the 80s. It starred three big superstars of that time, whose presence made this film legendary. We are talking about the film Jeete Hain Shaan Se, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles, which was released in 1988. Directed by Kawal Sharma, Jeete Hain Shaan Se starred all three major superstars of the late 80s and was a blockbuster. The film ran for 100% sold out in Mumbai for almost 2 weeks in April 1988.
Jeete Hain Shaan Se, made on a budget of just Rs 2 crore, grossed Rs 8 crore at the box office. It proved to be the biggest hit for Mithun Chakraborty in 1988 and in Kawal Sharma’s career.
The film also starred Mandakini as Julie, Vijeta Pandit as Kiran and Danny Denzongpa as Balwant/DK. Jeete Hain Shaan Se was the first and the last film in which Mithun Chakraborty and Govinda appeared together.
The story of the film revolves around Johnny (Mithun Chakraborty), Govinda (Sanjay Dutt), and Iqbal (Govinda) are close friends living in Mumbai, helping their community and crossing paths with a gangster named DK. Tragedy strikes when Govinda’s mother dies, leading to a reunion with his long-lost father, lawyer Verma. Shortly after, Johnny discovers Verma was responsible for his own mother’s past suffering, sparking conflict between Johnny and Govinda, who refuses to believe his father could be cruel. Iqbal must now mediate between his friends before DK exploits their rift.
