Mona Singh played the lead character’s mother in the film, a powerful role which showcased a strong woman.

Mona Singh is known for her versatile portrayal of characters in a range of films and TV shows. The actress has given memorable performances in some of the biggest films. Despite being such a talented performer, the failure of one of her last films, Laal Singh Chaddha, had an effect on her. In a recent interview, Mona Singh revealed how she reacted to the film’s box-office disappointment. In the film, Mona Singh played the lead character’s (Aamir Khan) mother, a powerful role which showcased a strong woman. Despite being a much-hyped film with prominent names, the movie failed at the box-office. According to Mona, on the day of the film’s release, she went to visit Aamir Khan’s house with the film’s director Advait Chandan. The news of its unexpected underwhelming box-office performance was out by then.

She said, “We were quiet, laughing, then I started crying. Advait was comforting me. It was a little tough because we had created a world full of love and empathy.” She further spoke how the film had no controversial element in it, and was all about love and empathy, but still was a disappointment at the poor box-office performance — caused by the boycott.

In the same interview, she recalled meeting Aamir at a party, where they had a brief conversation about the film. She said, “I met Aamir sir at a party; I asked him how he is doing. He said, Mona, it’s okay. We all have to move on.” She then talked about how the film helped her get more work, “I told him how Laal has changed my life. This year, I’ve shot for 5 series and for a film, and it’s all because of Laal.”

Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha was released on August 11, 2022. The film stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh. Made on a budget of Rs 180 crore, the film could only make Rs 129 crore at the box-office.
