Born as Begum Mumtaz Jehan Dehlavi, the actress changed her name to Madhubala after she ventured into the industry. One of her finest performances was the film Mughal-e-Azam, where she was paired opposite Dilip Kumar, who played the role of Salim. Their on-screen chemistry created a huge stir in the industry.

K Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam is considered to be one of the best films of Indian cinema. The director put in a lot of effort to make the film as flawless as possible without compromising on the film’s star cast, story, lavish sets or even shooting. He was extremely particular about every scene. However, reportedly, while shooting one particular scene with Madhubala, it came to a halt for about a week.

The scene in question is when Prithviraj Kapoor’s Akbar had to scold Durga Khote’s Jodhabai, Dilip Kumar’s Salim and Madhubala’s character Anarkali in front of everyone. But during the shoot, actress Madhubala could not stop herself from laughing. As per the scene’s requirement, she had to maintain a serious expression, but instead, she erupted in laughter and the scene could not be shot. Hence, the shoot came to a halt for a week.

Mughal-e-Azam is one of the big-budget films in the history of Bollywood. As per reports, the director had to shell out an exorbitant amount of money just to shoot the song, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, which is said to be more than the entire budget of the film. About Rs 10 lakh was spent on shooting the song. The film was made on a budget of about Rs 1 crore or more. Mughal-e-Azam minted about Rs 11 crore at the box office.
