Bollywood’s mega stars Anil Kapoor and Reena Roy have only worked in one film – that is, Pankaj Parashar’s Rajkumar. In the film, the actress portrayed the role of Anil Kapoor’s character’s mother. The movie was released in 1996. Apart from that, the duo have never collaborated on any project. As per reports, Anil Kapoor was dropped from a movie because of Reena Roy. Let us take a look at the incident. Reena Roy made her debut as an actress in Bollywood with Zaroorat in 1972. The actress quickly gained fame and recognition for her stellar acting chops and versatile role. On the other hand, Anil Kapoor marked his debut with Hamare Tumhare in 1979, seven years after Reena Roy. She became the highest-paid actress in Bollywood, whereas Anil Kapoor, despite hailing from a filmy background, struggled to find his footing at that time.
There were reports that JP Dutta wanted to rope in Anil Kapoor for a superhit movie that featured Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna. Reportedly, he was dropped from it because of Reena Roy. Instead, it led to a debutante making his way into Bollywood and earning accolades for his role. If the reports are anything to go by, Reena Roy had made a special request to JP Dutta, to cast her husband-cricketer Mohsin Khan in the movie. The director considered her request and hence, the Ram Lakhan actor had to opt out of the movie. There were also reports of the director wanting to sign up Naseerudding Shah for the movie. After Batwara, Mohsin Khan also appeared in other Bollywood films like Fateh, Saathi, Mahaanta and various others.
JP Dutta’s movie Batwara starred veterans like Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, Poonam Dhillon, Amrita Singh, Amrish Puri, and Shammi Kapoor. It also paved the way for Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan, who marked his debut in Bollywood and replaced Anil Kapoor. Batwara was released in 1989. The role of Thakur Rajendra Singh was essayed by Mohsin Khan.
