American actress and singer Zendaya, one of Hollywood’s most loved and fashionable stars, has captured hearts across the globe. In 2022, Time magazine crowned her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. The two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe recipient began her career as a child model and backup dancer, paving the way for her meteoric rise to fame.
Back in 2013, Zendaya, only 16 at the time, dazzled audiences on the popular reality show Dancing with the Stars. Partnering with the talented Val Chmerkovskiy, the duo delivered breathtaking performances week after week, earning a well-deserved second place finish. The coveted mirrorball trophy went to Derek Hough and his partner Kellie Pickler that season, but Zendaya’s remarkable journey on the dance floor was far from forgettable.
Fast forward to the October 3 episode of Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, when Zendaya sat down for a candid conversation about her past experiences. What she shared next left her fans both amused and shocked. Reflecting on her time on Dancing with the Stars, the Malcolm & Marie star revealed an unexpected truth — she has never watched the show since her season.
In a playful tone, Zendaya said, “I have not watched Dancing with the Stars since I was on. I didn’t really watch Dancing with the Stars before I was on Dancing with the Stars. I don’t think I was the target demographic. My grandma loves Dancing with the Stars. That’s her bag.”
Her light-hearted admission not only showcased her self-awareness but also highlighted the generational gap in viewing preferences.
However, the revelation didn’t stop there. Zendaya opened up about the stress that came with competing on the show, admitting, “I also think it was a very stressful experience. I was like, I don’t think I’m gonna be watching this anymore.” At just 28, the star candidly reflected on her youthful experiences and the pressure that comes with performing under the spotlight.
Dancing with the Stars is currently hosting its 33rd season, showcasing an equal amount of star power and enthusiasm from both the contestants and the viewers. The list of contestants includes Tori Spelling, Eric Roberts, Anna Delvey, Dwight Howard, and more. The show airs on ABC and Disney+ every Tuesday night.
On the work front, Zendaya was last seen in the romantic sports film, Challengers, released in April 2024. Not only did she star in the film, but she also was one of the producers alongside Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist. Additionally, the actress reprised her role as Chani in the American epic science fiction film, Dune: Part Two, released in March 2024. According to multiple reports, she will return for the third season of the TV series, Euphoria, as Rue Bennett, a role for which she won an Emmy.
