Abhishek Bachchan made his acting debut with the 2000 movie Refugee. However, before getting director JP Dutta’s project, it wasn’t easy for Amitabh Bachchan’s son to step into the world of showbiz. In a recent interview, Abhishek recalled the same and mentioned that nobody wanted to take on the responsibility of launching Amitabh Bachchan’s son. Not just this, the Ghoomer actor also shared that before his acting debut, the Bachchans were going through a rough time and therefore, he also returned to India from college in the United States to be with his father.
“Filmfare, 20 years ago, you planned months in advance about what you’d wear. And nobody was giving away free clothes in those days, you’d have to buy them yourself. You’d make sure you weren’t shooting that evening, the entire industry would show up, even if they weren’t nominated. It was an occasion. But then, I was like, ‘What to wear?’ It sounds weird to (say it now) but I didn’t have that many clothes, we couldn’t afford to… We were going through a rough time, and trying to be as frugal as we could be,” Abhishek told Galatta Plus.
“I had nothing formal to wear, and I didn’t think it would be prudent to show up in jeans and a T-shirt. So, the sherwani that was made for my sister’s wedding a couple of years earlier, I wore that and went,” the actor added.
Abhishek revealed that it was at the same award show when JP Dutta won the Best Director award for Border. When the filmmaker was walking down the stage, he spotted Abhishek. The director later asked Abhishek to meet him when he offered him Refugee.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Abhishek was last seen in R Balki’s Ghoomer. Released earlier this year, the film gained mixed reviews from all.
