Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal has been making headlines for several reasons ever since its release. Even though the film is doing well at the box office, it has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by many. In a recent interview, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga opened up on critics that affected his films.
He said, reviews by a handful of critics, didn’t affect Kabir Singh’s opening. “You’re making money, fame, name, everything by criticising my film, then go ahead. That’s what happened with most of the critics during Kabir Singh. Their shot to fame was criticising ‘Kabir Singh’…Nobody speaks about the craft, the editing, sound design, because they are literally illiterate, uneducated when it comes to films. They have no sense of how to criticise the film or review the film (sic).”

He added, “There’s a gang. They only like one particular type of films. They praise that particular filmmaker’s films and other filmmakers’ films and done to death. During Arjun Reddy also.. you know, there’s a culture of giving money to the critics also. I never did that and I will never do that. In my entire life, during the three films I made, I never tweeted, never pasted the review on my Facebook wall, or my Insta or Twitter handle. First time I did it was of RGV’s. Because, I respect that man, I am a big fan of his work and I truly believe how much he has contributed to Indian cinema – nobody has done that. Unka review mere liye bahut bada cheez hai (sic).”

Released on December 1, Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. The film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gun down 200 people with machine gun.
