The highly anticipated third episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, hosted by Karan Johar, aired on November 9. The latest episode featured the dynamic duo of Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday, adding a touch of glamour to the show. The two actresses brought an abundance of intriguing insights and revelations to the episode. They candidly addressed various rumours surrounding them and delved into discussions about their personal and professional lives. Amid these conversations on Koffee With Karan 8 (KWK8), Sara Ali Khan opened up about the setbacks she faced with the failures of Love Aaj Kal, starring Kartik Aaryan and Coolie No. 1.
Sara Ali Khan discussed how she coped with disappointments at the box office. During a conversation with filmmaker Karan Johar, she was asked whether she reflected on the performance shortcomings in movies that didn’t fare well. Karan also inquired about the support system that helped her identify areas for improvement. Responding to this, Sara Ali Khan affirmed that she indeed has such a support system. “I definitely have that ecosystem. Mom doesn’t mince her words about anything and I’m thankful that I’ve surrounded myself by an ecosystem of friends that really do keep me real,” the actress said.
Expanding on the topic, Sara Ali Khan emphasised that it’s not just about acknowledging the underwhelming performance of a film like Love Aaj Kal. She stated, “I’ve accepted that. It’s about actually understanding the larger ramifications of that. I actually think that the way that Love Aaj Kal or Coolie No. 1 not doing well affected me is way more deep-rooted than I even realised.” The actress added that her expressive and compensatory nature makes her hyper-aware of such situations.
Further, Sara Ali Khan expressed that she grappled with self-doubt following Love Aaj Kal. The actress, known for her roles in Atrangi Re and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, admitted to being introspective. She acknowledged the effort to break away from her past performances, receiving recognition for her endeavours.
Reflecting on the high stakes in the acting profession, Sara mentioned that it not only impacts her professionally but also resonates personally, leading to questions about her adequacy in various aspects of life. “What Love Aaj Kal left was self-doubt to the next level to the point of like even personally, romantically, professionally- ‘Am I good enough? Do I need to compensate for the lack of my doing something else?’” she added.
Work-wise, Sara Ali Khan is set to feature in Anurag Basu’s upcoming film, Metro In Dino, alongside Aditya Roy Kapur, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sensharma, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The movie is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
