The family of the late veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar has honoured her final wish by donating Rs 10 lakh to the Tirupati Temple. Lata Mangeshkar, known as India’s “Swar Kokila”, is no more with us but her extensive catalogue of songs ensures she remains cherished by her fans. Beyond her singing talent, Lata Mangeshkar was adored for her humility. Her death on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92, left her fans deeply saddened.
As per a News18 report, the family of the legendary late singer has fulfilled her last wish by donating Rs 10 lakh to the Tirupati Temple, as stipulated in her will. Usha Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar’s sister, officially requested this donation on behalf of the Mangeshkar family in a letter addressed to a board member of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Lata Mangeshkar had a profound devotion to Lord Venkateswara and even served as the court musician for the Tirupati Trust.
In July 2022, the family of Lata Mangeshkar realised the late singer’s dream by establishing The Swar Mauli Foundation, intended to function as both an NGO and an old age home. This foundation not only offers housing for those in need but also extends support to aspiring young talents in the performing arts, encompassing fields such as singing, dancing and acting. The Mangeshkar family’s statement about the foundation described it as the cherished project of India’s Swar Kokila and Bharat Ratna, Lata Mangeshkar. Its primary objective is to initiate the construction of an old age home, primarily for artists who have had to relinquish their dreams during the struggle of life. Swar Mauli Foundation is a secular, non-profit organisation with a noble mission.
Lata Mangeshkar was a singer who always followed her heart and unwaveringly adhered to her principles. She refrained from singing at weddings or parties. Her sister and fellow singer, Asha Bhosle, shared these insights during the inaugural Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar Award Ceremony held in Mumbai in April 2022.
During the event, Asha Bhosle recounted an incident, saying, “Someone once invited us to sing at a wedding and offered tickets worth millions of dollars or pounds. Lata Mangeshkar asked me if I would sing at the wedding. I declined, and then we told the representative, ‘Even if you offered $100 million, we wouldn’t sing because we don’t perform at weddings.’ The person was quite disappointed upon hearing our decision.”
