Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi treated fans to the best Christmas gift in the closing few days of 2023. The trailer of the duo’s much-anticipated film Merry Christmas is finally out. Released on December 20, it promises an intense thriller. While the uncanny pairing of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi is already making noise, the trailer’s gripping premise has made movie enthusiasts more excited. Directed by Andhadhun fame Sriram Raghavan, Merry Christmas will hit the big screens on January 12, 2024. Impressed by the trailer, celebrities including Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt gave a shout out to the upcoming movie on their respective social media handles.
Taking to his Instagram stories, Katrina Kaif’s husband-actor Vicky Kaushal lauded the Merry Christmas trailer, calling it a “gem". “One of the best cut Trailers! Can’t wait for this gem from the genius Sriram Raghavan." Along with the message, he also tagged Katrina, Vijay Sethupati, and Sanjay Kapoor.
Alia Bhatt, who shares a cordial relationship with Katrina Kaif, turned cheerleader for the Tiger 3 actress. Sharing the trailer on her Instagram stories, she wrote, “Okay, this is very very cool! I am very excited. Just must say." She also added a bunch of smiley emojis. Among the other celebs who lauded the trailer of Merry Christmas were Athiya Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Ali Abbas Zafar, and Varun Dhawan. Katrina later re-shared all the reactions on her IG stories.
Set against the backdrop of a quaint Christmas celebration, the Merry Christmas trailer opens with two horrifyingly contrasting scenes. Among two parallel representations, one showed a person using a mixer to crush lentils while in the other, someone else was cruising some medicines in the mixer. The video then moves on to show a beautiful romance between Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupati as they enjoy each other’s company and reminisce about past times. But their breezy romance soon takes a turn for the worse with a murder case at the helm. Infused with mystery, suspicion, and seemingly a lurking danger Merry Christmas promises to be an edge-of-the-seat entertainer.
Merry Christmas is set to release in Hindi and Tamil languages. While the Hindi version boasts an additional cast of Sanjay Kapoor, Tinnu Anand, Pratima Kannan, and Vinay Pathak, the Tamil version includes stars like Kavin Jay Babu, Rajesh Williams, Radhika Sarathkumar, and Shanmugaraja. Radhika Apte and Ashwini Kalsekar have cameo appearances in both languages.
