Pakistan’s World Cup 2023 campaign has been far from satisfactory. Despite a winning start, the team suffered four straight losses and are now on the verge of getting knocked out of the tournament. And now, it has been learned that Pakistan team captain Babar Azam is mulling over relinquishing his post after playing the final group-stage game against England on Saturday.

Pakistan aren’t totally out of the semi-final race. Their chances are bleak as their fate largely depends upon the toss. If they bat first, the men in green will be required to defeat the defending champions with a margin of more than 280 runs. And if they chase, the challenge gets tougher because they will have to chase the target in less than 5 overs.
According to Geo TV, Babar is disappointed by the behaviour of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the former cricketers and is likely to step down from his post. It has also been learned that the Pakistan captain consulted with former PCB chief Ramiz Raja during the team’s training session on Friday at the Eden Gardens.
The report further stated that Babar’s close aides have been advising him to step down from leadership in all three formats. The skipper had initially planned to make his decision while in India but will now take the final call upon returning to the country.
During the pre-match press conference on Friday, Babar was asked about when he would decide on his captaincy.
“He said, “About the captaincy–as I said, once we go back to Pakistan or after this match, we will see what happens. But right now, I am not focusing on this; my focus is on the next match.”
He also denied that the leadership has affected his form in the World Cup as he has struggled to put runs on the board.
“I have been captaining my team for the last three years, and I have never felt this way. It’s just because I have not performed the way I should have in the World Cup, that’s why people are saying that I am under pressure. I am under no pressure. I have been doing this for the last 2.5 or 3 years. I was the one who was performing, and I was the one who was the captain. I was applying the same thing,” Babar added.
