In a bid to assist the Government Higher Secondary School at Nanjappa Goundan Valasu in Bengaluru with the construction of classrooms, a Bengaluru-based firm has donated Rs 1.5 crore under the ‘Namma School – Namma Ooru Palli’ scheme of the State government. Launched in December 2022, the project aims to improve the infrastructure in government schools with private participation.
As per the reports by The Hindu, the school was started in 1963 as an elementary school. Later, it was upgraded as a middle school in 1985 and as a high school in 2011. By 2021, the school had been established as a higher secondary school.
As per reports, the school was lacking adequate classrooms to accommodate over 650 students who pursue Classes 6 to 12. Against the total requirement of 21 classrooms, there were only 12 classrooms, leading to difficulties in providing proper education. In addition to that, parents and students were also demanding the construction of new classrooms.
At this point, Alice Blue Financial Services Private Limited, under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), emerged as a new ray of hope. The organisation expressed its willingness to construct nine classrooms, a compound wall, and toilets for the school.
Following this, approvals were obtained from concerned authorities to start the construction without any further delay. The foundation stone was laid on Sunday for the construction. During the laying of the foundation stone, Alice Blue Financial Services Private Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer M Sidhavelayutham, who is a native of Poondurai Semur village in Modakkurichi taluk, school headmaster N Rajesh, Parents Teachers Association president Subramanian, officials from the Samagra Shiksha scheme department, School Management Committee president Mahalakshmi, councillors, and students’ parents were all present to grace the event.
Furthermore, the company had earlier donated smart boards, computers, printers, and other school essentials to 32 government schools in the Modakkurichi taluk district in April, all at a total cost of Rs 1.29 crore. Most of the schools were provided with smart boards, computer tables, computers, printers, and almirahs, while others were given benches and tiles. Painting works were also done at a few schools by Alice Blue Financial Services Private Limited.
For those unversed, Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the School Education Department’s Namma School Foundation in December 2022. Under this project, funds are obtained from companies under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the development of schools in the State. The list of requirements of each school was given on the official website at nammaschool.tnschools.gov. and donors can make contributions accordingly for the purchase of needed items.
