'Doctor Asked me How?': AB DeVilliers Reveals Playing With Detached Retina in The Final Two Years of His Career
The South African batting legend revealed that he had a massive disadvantage when batting in the final two years of my career.

South African batting legend, AB DeVilliers has wowed cricketing fans with his batting prowess in all formats of cricket. But the legendary batter revealed an interesting detail which would leave any fans in shock as to how he was able to do what he has in his career.

AB DeVilliers officially retired from international cricket in May 2018 at 34 years old. The batter managed to finish with a record of 114 Tests, 228 one-day internationals and 78 Twenty20 Internationals. Across formats, he ended with 20,014 runs against his name.

The 360-degree batter revealed in the Wisden Cricket Monthly that he had picked up an eye injury sometime before his retirement. The former South African cricketer shared, “My youngster accidentally kicked me on my eye with his heel. I started really losing vision in the right eye.”

The South Africa legend also revealed, “When I got the surgery done the doctor actually asked me, ‘How in the world did you play cricket like this?’. Luckily my left eye did a decent job for the last two years of my career.”

Most people would even be scared at the thought of going up against top-level bowlers in international cricket and the South African legend managed to do that and perform with just one eye that is fully functioning properly for the last two years of his career.

The batting legend also played in the IPL where he was a crucial part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore side where he partnered up with the Indian icon, Virat Kohli to form one of the most lethal partnerships in the league’s history.

Despite not winning a title, the cricketing fraternity holds the highest respect for someone like ABD who has been able to take on the best bowlers and make them look like childs play with his wide range of shots.
