To the winner goes all the spoils, that is exactly what might transpire as superstars of the ICC Cricket World Cup are seemingly set to enter the auction for the 2024 edition of the IPL.
It has been stated that world champions Australia’s heroes including the likes of Travis Head, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have all kept their respective base prices in the highest bracket of Rs. 2 crore for the IPL 2024 auction scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19.
As per ESPN Cricinfo, franchises have been sent a list of 1166 players, all of whom have registered for the much-awaited auction on December 19.
There are 77 slots up for grabs and 30 of them would be overseas players. The 10 teams can collectively spend Rs 262.95 crore.
But, the Aussies aren’t the only ones reaping the benefits of their win.
New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, the WOrld Cup’s wonderkid, is said to be priced at Rs 50 lakh for starters, but there will be no doubt that the 23-year-old Kiwi will be highly contested for by the likes of various franchises.
Yet another exoected benefactor due to recent performance would be Josh Inglis, who scored his maiden T20 hundred against India in the ongoing T20 series. He joins the likes of former Australia skipper Steve Smith and pacer Josh Hazlewood in the top bracket.
The spoils shall also find their way to South Africa’s new pace sensation Gerald Coetzee, who sclaped 20 wickets in the recent ODI World Cup. The ever-dependable top-order batter Rassie van der Dussen is also likely to see the hammer go up multiple times as teams will be vying to acquire his services.
Wanindu Hasaranga, who was recently released by RCB on the day of the IPL Retention deadline, also falls under the Rs 1.5 crore bracket.
