Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired a high-level review meeting on the progress of schemes based on the announcements in his Independence Day speech. The discussion focussed on schemes for the welfare of women.
Schemes ranging from making 2 crore ‘Lakhpat Didis’ to empowering 15,000 Women SHGs with drones were discussed in the meeting. The prime minister also took stock of the various livelihood interventions planned to achieve this target.
Schemes to rapidly expand coverage of Jan Aushadhi stores from 10,000 to 25,000 are also in the pipeline.

In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi had spoken about equipping 15,000 women Self Help Groups (SHGs) with drones for agriculture and related purposes.
The prime minister had also talked about taking the number of Jan Aushadhi Stores in India to 25,000 from 10,000 currently to increase the reach of affordable medicines. He reviewed the implementation strategy for this expansion.
