The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is likely to issue the notification for National Defence Academy (NDA) and Combined Defence Services (CDS) soon. According to the UPSC examination calendar, the notification for NDA-1 and CDS-1 will be released tomorrow, December 20. The last date for submitting online applications for the NDA and CDS exam is January 9, 2024. However, the examination for CDS 1 and NDA, NA 1 will be conducted on April 21, 2024.

Those who wish to appear for the examination are advised to keep an eye on the official website of UPSC for related updates on the notification.Based on past trends, the NDA and CDS admit card is expected to be issued three weeks before the examination.

UPSC CDS, NDA & NA 1 Schedule: Eligibility Criteria

Age limit: Candidates applying for the NDA exam must be 16.5 to 19.5 years of age. However, for the CDS exam, those applying for Air Force and Navy must be between the age cap 19 to 23 years and for Officers Training Academy, candidates must be 19 to 24 years of age.

Educational Qualification: Candidates must pass Class 12 to be eligible for the NDA exam. For CDS, it is necessary to be a graduate of a recognized university. One must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering to join the Navy, whereas for the Air Force Academy one must have passed Physics and Chemistry in Class 12 along with a Bachelor’s degree.

The UPSC conducts the Combined Defence Services and National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination twice a year. The second phase of examination NDA and NA II and CDS II is scheduled to be held on September 1, 2024, whereas the date of notification is May 15, 2024.

The NDA and CDS exams consist of two phases: a written examination and an interview round. The written examination is organised by the Union Public Service Commission, and the interview is conducted by the Service Selection Board (SSB). The UPSC NDA written exam carries 900 marks and comprises two papers: mathematics and general ability. Out of which, the mathematics paper contains 300 marks, and the general ability test is 600 marks. The duration of each paper is 150 minutes.

However, the UPSC CDS Examination is for IMA, INA, and AFA posts. It consists of three papers: general knowledge, English language, and elementary mathematics. Each paper carries 100 marks, and the time for the exam is 2 hours.
