Batting maestro Virat Kohli handed over the best fielder medal of the Indian team during the match against Afghanistan to all-rounder Shardul Thakur on Wednesday. Shardul grabbed a stunning catch near the boundary line to dismiss in-form Rahmanullah Gurbaz for 21.
Team India fielding coach T Dilip has started a new tradition in the camp with the ongoing World Cup. After every match, Dilip points out the players who did well on the field and hands over the best fielder medal to a player.

After Afghanistan’s clash, Dilip did the same as he pointed out the fielding efforts of Shardul, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya on the field. Meanwhile, he announced Shardul as the best fielder of the match and asked the previous winner Virat Kohli to hand over the medal to him.
Kohli had an epic reaction when Shardul was named the best fielder of the match.

“The catch was at a crucial period because Hardik took a chance bowling a bouncer and we needed a wicket at that stage. Very happy to convert the catch. I have been part of this team for a few years now and I know the boys really well. I am comfortable in this dressing room and we have created an atmosphere where there is no such things as seniors and juniors. Everyone has gelled in so well that you don’t feel nervousness here,” Thakur said to BCCI.tv after the match.
The Indian team did well in the fielding department in the first two matches of the World Cup as a result they won their first two matches comfortably.
Meanwhile, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma slammed a record-seventh century in an ODI World Cup as India defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets and 90 balls to spare in match no. 9 of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, here on Wednesday. Rohit scored 131 after Jasprit Bumrah’s spell of 4/39 limited Afghans to 271/8 despite a fighting 80 by skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi.
