An undertrial prisoner who was accused of murder was shot dead in broad daylight by two unidentified men while being taken to a court complex in Bihar’s Danapur on Friday. The victim was immediately rushed to the nearest government hospital, where he was declared dead. The assailants have been arrested, police said.

Abhishek Kumar alias Chhote Sarkar, a resident of Sikanderpur, faced murder charges and was lodged in the city’s Beur jail. He was set to be presented before the court earlier in the day, police said.
The incident took place around 1.30 pm when Chote Sarkar was attacked by two armed assailants in Danapur court premises while he was being escorted to a trial court from the lock-up. The attackers were nabbed by the police while trying to escape.
“Today on December 15, 2023, Abhishek Singh alias Chhote Sarkar, under arrest prisoner of Central Jail Beur, was brought for production in the Honorable Civil Court, Danapur. The accused was shot by 2 criminals in the court premises. Both the criminals involved in the murder were immediately arrested and are being interrogated,” Patna Police said in an X post.

Abhishek Kumar alias Chhote Sarkar has several criminal cases registered against him, including ones for murder and extortion, police said.
