Akhilesh to be sworn in as UP CM on March 15
Akhilesh Yadav was elected unanimously by 225 Samajwadi Party MLAs as the leader of the legislature party.

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party has formally named Akhilesh Yadav as its Chief Minister for Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh met Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi and formally staked claim to form the government.

Cometh the hour and cometh the man, Akhilesh 38 years of age has become the youngest Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, elected unanimously by 225 Samajwadi Party MLAs as the leader of the legislature party.

It all went according to the script, on Friday night Mulayam Singh Yadav had made apparent to two senior leaders Azam Khan and Shivpal Yadav that Akhilesh was the chosen one despite their opposition to Mulayam's son.

Azam in fact was asked to propose Akhilesh's name as the new Chief Minister in the legislature party meeting, the proposal was backed by Shivpal. The two later accompanying the anointed Chief Minister to Raj Bhawan to stake claim.

The biggest challenge for Akhilesh will be on the law and order front especially after a spate of clashed between SP and BSP workers after the elections results were announce.

Akhilesh will have to rein in his cadre and also deliver on promises both social and economic made in the manifesto like free laptops and employment generation.

"We will fulfil all promises that were made in our manifesto," Akhilesh said.

Akhilesh will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on March 15.
