Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned without transacting any business for the third day on Monday as TRS and TDP members from Telangana region raised slogans demanding separate statehood.
As soon as the House met for the day, agitated members belonging to these parties raised the issue vociferously and repeatedly stormed the well, ignoring pleas by the Chair to restore order.
Spearheading the protest, Telangana Rashtra Samiti members rushed to the Speaker's podium demanding a resolution on creation of a separate state of Telangana. TDP members too joined them, demanding immediate revocation of the suspension of five MLAs.
Amid the prevailing din, over 10 Congress MLAs loyal to rebel leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy rose from their seats holding banners to demand immediate release of funds for reimbursement of tuition fee for students pursuing professional courses.
Three Congress MLAs from Telangana too stood up raising slogans in support of formation of a separate state.
As the members refused to relent, the House had to be adjourned twice and then finally for the day.
Later, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar convened a meeting of floor leaders of all parties to break the impasse.
Three TRS and two TDP MLAs were on Friday suspended from the House for a week for their unruly behaviour during the Governor's address on the opening day of the Budget session.
Earlier, raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu urged Manohar to reconsider suspension of the MLAs.
"You should have at least heard the MLAs before suspending them. You should have shown restraint," he told the Deputy Speaker and demanded that their suspension be revoked immediately.
Labour Minister Danam Nagender intervened saying the matter could be reconsidered if the suspended MLAs tendered unconditional apology to the House and to the people of state over their behaviour.
The TDP members raised objection to certain remarks made by the Minister and demanded that they be expunged.
TDP leader Nagam Janardhana Reddy rushed into the well, forcing the Deputy Speaker to adjourn the proceedings for 10 minutes.
When the House reassembled after more than an hour, two obituary references were taken up.
The Deputy Speaker then announced that the questions listed for the day were being postponed.
At that point, TRS members stormed the Speaker's podium demanding a resolution on the statehood issue.
As the noisy scenes continued, the House was adjourned again for another 10 minutes.
