The Telugu Desam Party on Friday said it will be launching a separate manifesto for the welfare of backward classes and know the problems they are facing. National general secretary Nara Lokesh said the programme titled ‘Jayaho BC’ will be released on January 4.
Lokesh told reporters at the party headquarters that the TDP will initially hold a workshop under the leadership of N Chandrababu Naidu, to discuss steps on how to move on the ‘Jayaho BC’ programme. Meetings will be organised at all the headquarters of each Lok Sabha constituency, assembly segment and mandal followed by a public meeting at the state level where a separate manifesto for the community will be released, he said.
“During my ‘Yuva Galam’ padyatra, I have personally come to know the issues being faced by the BCs and the party has decided to get first-hand information on their problems in the mandals, which I have not covered during my yatra,” Lokesh said, adding that BC does not mean backward classes but a strong segment.
Observing that the TDP is the birthplace for the BCs, he recalled how the party’s founder NT Rama Rao empowered the community by allocating key portfolios. He created 24 percent reservation for the BCs, which was increased to 34 percent by Chandrababu Naidu.
Lokesh called Andhra Pradesh chief minister a “traitor of the BCs”. He pointed out budgetary allocation made during the TDP regime for BCs and the several welfare schemes launched for their progress. “After Mr Jagan came to power, several BCs like Amarnath Goud were killed inhumanly,” he added.
He further said Goud’s killer was moving about freely while the chief minister or his cabinet colleagues had not even bothered to console his family members. He pointed out different instances where members of the community have been subjected to torture.
Lokesh also said 10 percent deposits made by the beneficiaries of the Aadarana scheme are not being paid back to them, adding that 56 corporations do not have funds now. The situation is so bad that even the salaries of the BC corporation directors are not being paid, he said.
Making it clear that he will personally take up the responsibility to implement all the promises that he has made during the padyatra, Lokesh said a separate legislation will be enacted for the safety and security of the community and permanent caste certificates will be issued to them through an app. He also promised to revive the 10 percent reservation for BCs in local bodies once the TDP returns to power in the upcoming elections.
