Hyderabad: Denying Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's charge that the Congress was trying to defame him and his late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy through court cases, state party leaders on Tuesday said Jagan should come clean by proving that allegations against him and his father are false.
"There is an inquiry (by CBI) going on today. There is an impression, unfortunately, that all these things happened because Rajasekhara Reddy was CM. What should Jagan Mohan Reddy do in these circumstances? He should prove that there is no truth in the allegations against him and that his father had nothing to do with it," state Tourism Minister Vatti Vasant Kumar told reporters.
"Rajasekhara Reddy did not have shares worth even a rupee in any of the companies. He had no connection with these companies. All of these businesses were done by Jagan Mohan Reddy," he said.
"The inquiry, CBI, courts, all these are happening as per the IT returns filed by Jagan's firms," he said.
Referring to allegations of Jagan supporters that his father's name was included in the list of suspects, he said that the probe is going on as per the orders of the court and that Rajasekhara Reddy's name did not figure in the list of accused.
Vasant Kumar also recalled that Rajasekhara Reddy had sought probe whenever allegations surfaced against him, his family members or his government.
Dismissing Jagan's allegations that the TDP and Congress had a tacit understanding, he said Congress always kept TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu at an arm's length.
Replying to a query, he said the ministers, who were members of Rajasekhara Reddy Cabinet, are ready to face probe if such a situation arose.
State ministers like N Raghuveera Reddy were also present at the press conference.
