Bihar Assembly pays tribute to Bal Thackeray
The Assembly also remembered filmmaker Yash Chopra and 'milkman' Verghese Kurien.

Patna: Bihar legislature on Thursdsay paid rich tributes to Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, noted filmmaker Yash Chopra, 'milkman' Verghese Kurien among others on the opening day of its Winter Session. Thackeray who passed away in Mumbai on November 17 was paid tributes by members in the Legislative Council in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is an MLC.

Council chairman Awdhesh Narayan Singh said the Shiv Sena founder always fought for the welfare of Marathi people. The House also remembered Chopra for his contribution to Bollywood. Kurien credited for bringing "White Revolution" in the country by establishing "Amul" brand in Gujarat, was praised for revolutionising milk production in the country.

Both the Houses also paid respect to veteran BJP leader and former Governor of Gujarat and Rajasthan Kailashpati Mishra and some of its own members and ex-ministers of Bihar like Ramsewak Hazari, Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Premlata Rai, Aditya Singh, Manga Singh Lamey, Ramchandra Yadav and Chandeshwar Prasad.

In the Assembly, Speaker Udai Narayan Chaudhary led the House in paying condolence to the departed leaders. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his Deputy Sushil Kumar Modi and Leader of Opposition Abdul Bari Siddiqui were present. The Council also condoled death of 17 people in a stampede during Chhath festival here on November 19. Both the Houses were then adjourned for the day.
