Centre Plans Electoral Reforms to Curb Money Power in Polls
The development comes after independent MLAs in Karnataka were caught on camera allegedly talking of bribes from Congress leaders for support during Vidhan Parishad and Rajya Sabha elections.

In the wake of recent allegations over use of money power in elections, the Centre is mulling comprehensive electoral reforms in legislative council elections. Officials say the Law Ministry has set up a committee to look into the issue.

The government is likely to go for wider consultations with stake holders including political parties, state governments and public over the issue. At present seven states -- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra -- have legislative councils.
