New Delhi: With just a week left for the poll process to begin, the full Election Commission will be travelling to Chennai on Sunday to review the preparations for the April 13 Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.
Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi and other two Election Commissioners V S Sampath and H S Brahma would take stock of the law and order situation and fine tune measures to ensure free and fair polls in the state, where stakes are high for the ruling DMK-led alliance and AIADMK-led coalition.
During their two-day stay from Monday, they would interact with leaders of various political parties and top civil and police officials.
The Election Commissioners would review, among other things, progress in the preparation of Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), photo electoral rolls and deployment of Central forces particularly in sensitive areas.
Notification for the elections to the 234-member assembly will be issued on March 19 and a single day polling would be held on April 13.
After a hard bargaining, the Congress and DMK have reached a seat-sharing agreement on Tuesday last under which Congress will contest 63 seats. DMK, which will contest in 121 seats, has already allotted 31 seats to PMK.
So far, the AIADMK had concluded seat-sharing pact with actor Vijaykanth-led DMDK allotting 41 seats besides giving a few seats to some smaller parties.
