Cong seeks ban on telecast of actor-politicians' films
A memorandum was submitted to Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer.

Hyderabad: The ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh on Monday sought extension of the ban on telecast of actor-politicians by Doordarshan and private television channels.

A Congress delegation led by state finance minister K Rosaiah submitted a memorandum to state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) IV Subba Rao asking how could private television channels be allowed to telecast films of actor-politicians when there was a ban on telecast of such films by the public telecaster Prasar Bharathi.

He sought an immediate clarification from the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, the opposition Telugu Desam Party complained that 14 advertisements cleared by the three-member committee for telecast were objectionable.

The CEO said the Appellate Committee headed by him would look into the objections raised by the Opposition party.

He said polling in 10 villages in the tribal areas of Khammam and Visakhapatnam districts, which had been identified as inaccessible, would start at 0700 IST hrs and close at 1500 IST hrs.

The voters whose names were found missing could apply for inclusion of their names before March 23, he added.

All those who had applied for Elector's Photo Identity Cards after the publication of final electoral rolls, cards would be generated by March 21 and distributed by March 27, the CEO said.

Taking a stern view on unauthorised liquor outlets, he said as per the Election Commission's directive the District Collectors were asked to take immediate steps to close down these outlets and submit a daily report to the EC in this regard, he added.
