New Delhi: The Congress has moved a privilege motion against the government on increasing rail fares before the Budget Session of Parliament began. The privilege motion is also against the alleged leaking of Rail Budget papers before they were presented.

The Narendra Modi government had announced a steep 14 per cent hike in rail fares last month. The Congress and other Opposition parties have been criticising the NDA government for bypassing Parliament by increasing rail fares before the session.

The Congress had also protested against the Modi government's maiden Rail Budget on Tuesday. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had slammed the Rail Budget. "Uninspiring budget, it's like a service budget. States like Kerala and Bengal have been left out. It's not pro-poor," Rahul said.

Congress leader Veerappa Moily had said that the Budget had no vision. "There is no national vision, this is nothing but mere tokenism. Just talking about safety and other issues is not enough. Where is the money? How will it be allocated," Moily said.
