New Delhi: Delhi's lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung has on called Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan on Thursday for a discussion on government formation in the national capital.
In the 70-member seat Assembly, the BJP has secured the maximum number of 32 seats, falling short of touching the half-way mark. The debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was a close second with 28 seats while Congress was cornered with just 8 seats in the elections.
However, there is a political deadlock as both the BJP and the AAP are not ready to stake claim in making the government and are willing to sit in the Opposition.
BJP Delhi in-charge Nitin Gadkari said, "We will sit in opposition as we don't have the numbers."
AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Yogendra Yadav too made it clear that they neither seek nor give support to any one. "We will not take support from any other party, we will not give support to another party," said Yadav.
All eyes will be on the meeting of lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung with the Harsh Vardhan on Thursday which might bring an end to the speculation of whether the party will be willing to try and make a government or whether India's only city-state will be headed towards a President's rule.
