DMK, TMC warn UPA on SL war crimes, NCTC
The DMK says its continuation in the UPA depends on the Prime Minister's assurance on India's stand on alleged Sri Lanka war crimes.

New Delhi: The DMK and Trinamool Congress (TMC) are keeping up the heat on the Centre on the issues of alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka, National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and the Railway Budget. The DMK on Monday indicated that its continuation in the UPA would depend on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's assurance on India's stand on alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.

DMK leader TR Baalu said that he was hopeful that the UPA would pay heed to its demands.

"I have already given notice to the Speaker. Any point of time it can come up for discussion. I may have a chance today to discuss the amendment that I have given. Definitely, DMK will insist upon support on the US sponsored resolution to the UN authorities," he said.

The ally from Tamil Nadu wants the Centre to back the US resolution against Sri Lanka in the forthcoming session of the UN Human Rights Commission. The party wants a discussion on the alleged war crimes and has called for a high-level meeting on Tuesday to discuss the UNHRC vote. The party says it may even review its ties with the UPA over this.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK's bitter rival J Jayalalithaa, too, had written to the Prime Minister to take up the issue.

Meanwhile, after the row over the Railway Budget and Dinesh Trivedi, the TMC is non-committal on its support to the UPA on the NCTC with its leader Derek O'Brien saying that his party's support to the Centre's controversial move would depend on the Prime Minister's reply to the Presidential Address.
