Ahmedabad: Eyeing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Gordhan Zadaphia's Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) on Monday announced its decision to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"BJP is our mother organisation, our differences were not so big that we could not mend our fences. After all we are all swayamsevaks," Zadaphia said.
"Keshubhai's health does not permit him to get involved in active politics, but he has agreed for the merger. We opposed the BJP over many issues, but our ideology is same," he added.
The GPP was founded by former Gujarat chief minister Keshubhai Patel and the party's charge was recently given to former BJP minister Gordhan Zadaphia due to the former's ill health. Earlier in August 2012 the Mahagujarat Janata Party had dissolved itself in the Gujarat Parivartan Party.
