A video from an election rally in Haryana’s Nuh has gone viral, in which some people sitting on a JCB bulldozer blade are seen showering currency notes from a height on a huge crowd which scrambles to collect the cash.
Mohammad Habib, who is contesting on an Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) ticket from Ferozepur Jhirka Assembly seat in Nuh district, was seen in the video along with his supporters on the top of a car. The event was organized in Haryana’s Nagina town.
The Indian National Lok Dal and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are contesting the Assembly elections together in Haryana.
According to the Code of Conduct specified by the Election Commission of India, no inducement, financial or otherwise, shall be offered to the voter. However, the poll body has not received any complaint about this incident yet.
Nuh was established as a separate district in 2005 from parts of what was then Gurgaon and Faridabad. It has three assembly constituencies — Nuh, Ferozepur Jhirka and Punhana.
The INLD has fielded Tahir Hussain from the Nuh assembly constituency. He is the son of Zakir Hussain, a three-time MLA from the constituency and chairperson of the Haryana Waqf Board. He recently joined the INLD.
The BJP has never won from Nuh and the voters here have historically supported the Congress and the INLD. Nuh is the only constituency in the Muslim-dominated district where the BJP has not fielded a Muslim candidate.
Locals in Nuh — identified as both economically and educationally backward — have been demanding improved infrastructure and the setting up of a university. Besides chronic water shortages, dilapidated infrastructure, lack of healthcare facilities, and a high unemployment rate dominate the concerns of voters in the district.
Assembly polls in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the results declared on October 8.
