Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) will stage protest in New Delhi on February 17 against the division of Andhra Pradesh. "About 7,000 party workers and leaders would sit on a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to protest against the proposed tabling of Telangana Bill in the Parliament," said senior party leader Umareddy Venkateswarlu.
"The party cadre and leaders will leave for Delhi on February 15 by two special trains," added Venkateswarlu.
He went on to say, "We will highlight the single-minded approach of the Congress in dividing the State though 75 per cent of the population is against it. Any Bill with financial implications will have to be introduced in the Lok Sabha and not in Rajya Sabha".
"The proposal to table the Bill in the Parliament will be opposed by our party and we will carry out the protest and a public meeting in the national capital," he said.
"The two special trains will leave from Tirupati and Rajahmundry on February 15 and pick up cadre and leaders en route," he said.
In a separate press conference, party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma said party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be addressing public meeting at Srikakulam on Saturday and Sunday.
In the Srikakulam meeting, former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao would join the party along with MLAs Vijay Kumar and Jagannayakulu. Late NT Rama Rao's wife Lakshmi Parvathi would also join the party in the Srikakulamm meeting, she said.
